The Saint Louis Watercolor Society partnered with the Belin-Blank Center and the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers to celebrate artists and their teachers in the broader St. Louis area. As a participant in this year’s Scholastic Art and Writing Awards the students were invited to attend this STLWS awards event which was held on March 15th from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Grants View Library in St. Louis, MO. The celebration was open to the public with light refreshments served.
Students were given a chance to enter the STLWS’s inaugural event by submitting one image of their artwork which was then judged by the STLWS Board’s Scholastic Art Awards committee for the awards. The STLWS gave out two Gold awards ($200), three Silver awards ($100), and three Bronze Awards ($50). The students entering had a chance to share their artwork, interact with other artists and art educators, and see some of the great art being made by others in the metropolitan area.
The event was very exciting as the students brought their family members and each spoke about their paintings, inviting questions from the audience, with a nice turnout given there was threatening weather that day. The STLWS was so happy to to give the participants their well deserved recognition and encouragement to keep going with their artistic development.
