Title:  Watercolor Level II

Instructor:  Maggie McCarthy, Watercolor Artist

Date:  Wednesdays, April 5-May 3, 2017 (5 weeks)

Costs:  $175

Experience in watercolor is required for this class.  Participation in Watercolor I or instructor approval is required.

The importance of drawing and perspective will be emphasized for this class.

Good composition and how to create it will be emphasized as well as helping the watercolorist develop his/her personal vision and feeling in each painting.

Value studies will be reviewed/taught and highly encouraged for each composition.

Students will bring their own source material to create their own compositions.  Included with the source images, a description of the ecology of the subject is required to assist in thorough understanding of the subject.

  • Light source and the different kinds of light and how to paint it will be emphasized.
  • Direct Light – side light, top light, back light, front light.
  • Indirect light.
  • Colored light.

Strategies for understanding and controlling the wetness of the paper and the wetness of the brush will be discussed.   Color, techniques for different content, different brushes will be discussed as needed by the students.
