On behalf of the Penn Valley Park Conservancy, I’d like to invite you to join us for our 3rd Annual Plein Air Fest!
Last year 50 artists registered, and we are hoping even more artists will participate this year to capture the beauty of our Park en plein air!
In 1893, Penn Valley seemed intended by nature for park purposes. Today the great diversity of land provides a rugged, picturesque park with provisions for all forms of play and recreation. Located on the southern edge of downtown Kansas City next to Union Station, the park is home to Liberty Memorial, a National Historic Landmark, and The Scout, the city’s most iconic piece of art.
REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN! Take advantage of EARLY BIRD Registration ($25) until TAX DAY! Register at http://pennvalleypark.org/plein-air/plein-air-2016/
Why Should You Join Us?
Well, besides helping the Conservancy protect this historic and vital urban green space, Your Registration includes:
- Complimentary Artist Reception at One Park Place, where you can hear from our Judge and mingle with artists over hors d’oeuvres, beer and wine;
- Three $500 Purchase Award Quick Paints (Thursday and Friday 5-7p and Sat 7-9a);
- Chance to submit three paintings to win $2,500 in Cash Prizes — ($1,000—Best in Show; $750—1st; $500—2nd; and $250-3rd);
- Two tickets to the Art Exhibit and Awards Ceremony on Saturday night, May 7 from 7-10p at Buttonwood Art Space.
In addition to the chances to win, consider this: Last year, 43% of the artists submitting paintings in the competition sold at least one painting at the Art Exhibit following the Plein Air Fest. The total value of the paintings sold was more than $8,500, with an average sale price of over $300.
Who’s this year’s Judge? We have been so fortunate to have had two outstanding judges, Phil Starke and Rachael Cozad, for our first two Plein Air Events. This year, we are thrilled to continue that tradition and announce that Michael Albrechtsen will judge this year’s event. If you are not familiar with Michael, you can learn more about him and his work at http://www.michaelalbrechtsen.com/ and in a feature article American Artist did on Michael. http://www.artistdaily.com/blogs/oil-painting/oil-painting-michael-albrechtsen-spend-more-time-looking
Also, Michael will be conducting a painting workshop leading up to the Plein Air Fest, May 2-4, 9 a.m.—4 p.m.
