Daven Anderson shares his news with us:
On March 24, 2017 the Herman T. Pott National Inland Waterways Library of the St. Louis Mercantile Library & Art Museum awarded me the Donald T. Wright Award at a luncheon. What an honor! I’m overwhelmed!
The Donald T. Wright Award is presented biennially in recognition of a body of work that contributes significantly to a better understanding of the American inland waterways. It was first bestowed in 1975 and is named for Captain Donald T. Wright who served as editor and publisher of The Waterways Journal for 43 years. Past recipients have included National Book Award Nominee Earl Swift; Pulitzer Prize winner Ron Powers; musician John Hartford; Post-Dispatch cartoonist Dan Martin and Pulitzer Prize winner David Grunfeld.
For those of you who do not know me, I’m Daven Anderson, US Naval Academy ’65, nuclear submariner, then on to the world of business for 35 years and presently a full time artist. I am the Managing Director of the American Society of Marine Artists, a US Coast Guard artist, the Executive Director of the Missouri Watercolor Society and a member of the Watercolor Honor Society. I have works in the collections of four museums including the St. Louis Mercantile Library and Art Museum and the Missouri History Museum, the US Coast Guard Collection (3), the US Naval Academy and numerous private, corporate and foundation collections.
The body of work that qualified me for the honor is my series of paintings: THE RIVERS: A Celebration of Life and Work on America’s Waterways. The series is currently on exhibit through April 7th at the St. Louis Mercantile Library & Art Museum, the second of seven scheduled museum exhibitions. In July, August and September the series can be seen at the Channel Islands Maritime Museum, Oxnard, CA (just north of LA) before returning to the Midwest and East in 2018. The full schedule of exhibitions can be seen on the exhibition website: www.TheRiversExhibition.com Many of the paintings in the series can be viewed on my website www.davenanderson.com Click on ‘Paintings’ & then on ‘Rivers’ above the picture thumbnails.
Daven certainly deserves this. Congratulations to a brilliant artist who works hard to help others. Congratulations!
